Darius E. Levine, who lives in Leonia, was arrested early Friday after an intensive overnight review of the circumstances. Sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT the boy was riding scooters with his brother and father at the firehouse when the alleged assault occurred. Levine was a guest at the firehouse at the time.

The boy told his father, who then contacted Leonia police. Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli’s Special Victims Unit was immediately summoned.

Levine is officially charged with second-degree sexual assault by contact. He has a June 25 Municipal Court appearance scheduled.

He is scheduled to graduate next year from the Community School of Teaneck, which serves children with learning disabilities and attention deficits.

Levine has also participated in the Puffin Cultural Forum, a project of the Teaneck-based Puffin Foundation Ltd., which reaches into the community for artwork and photography from all walks of life.

Levine – the youngest of three adopted special-needs children in the family — enjoys photography.

The Leonia firehouse was closed to all but fire protection and other emergencies on Friday as the investigation continued – meaning: none of the frequent family and other gatherings there. Firefighters said they believed ordinary activities would resume by tomorrow.
