FORT LEE, N.J. – A Pennsylvania man has $49,000 stashed in a hidden compartment of his Jeep when Bergen County prosecutor’s drug investigators stopped him in Fort Lee, authorities said.
Jose Vargas-Negron, a 33-year-old crane operator from Leola, PA, was charged with money laundering and released pending an April 4 hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
The cash was seized for forfeiture.
Narcotics Task Force members discovered the money in an electronically-operated hidden compartment after they stopped Vargas-Negron’s 2007 Jeep on Saturday, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.
