Responding to an alert broadcast by Fort Lee police, Officer Patrick Devins spotted 51-year-old Billy Pugh just after 4 p.m. Monday, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Pugh, of the Bronx, tried to flee through traffic toward the bridge's lower level but was chased down, he said.

A search of the area turned up headphones that Fort Lee police said the burglar in the 2100 Linwood Avenue break-in was seen wearing on surveillance video, Pentangelo said.

Fort Lee police took custody of Pugh and charged him with burglary, among other offenses. Port Authority police charged him with defiant trespassing.
