The bandit broke into a home on Edgewood Road near Jones Road on the Englewood border after ringing a neighbor’s doorbell before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“Most burglars will do this prior to committing a burglary,” Leonia Police Lt. Thomas Rowe told residents yesterday.

The burglar was described as 5-foot-10, black, wearing a black ski cap, brown jacket and black pants. He was driving a dark-colored Nissan, police said.

Rowe urged residents to “make sure you bring in any garbage pails that are on the curb, newspapers on the driveway and mail protruding from mailboxes.

“If you are gong to be out after it is dark, make sure that you leave lights on.”

He also urged residents to report unfamiliar cars that circle their blocks.
