Defense attorney Paul Brickfield entered a not guilty plea and Familia, 27, remained free on $1,500 bail.

Police allege that Familia -- identified as Jeurys F. Mojica in the complaint filed in Municipal Court -- attempted "to cause or purposely, knowingly or recklessly [cause] "bodily injury" to the unidentified victim, with a right cheek bruise and chest scratch visible, in the 2:22 a.m. Cot. 31 incident at his Park Avenue apartment.

New Jersey law prohibits police from identifying domestic violence victims not only by name but also by relationships, circumstances or defining characteristics that would make their identities clear.

A Dominican native, Familia has been reported as living with his wife, Bianca, and their young son. He recently participated in an anti-domestic violence advertising campaign featuring sports stars.
