PALISADES PARK, N.J. -- A Fort Lee man was charged in connection with the hit-and-run injury of a Palisades Park pedestrian after a borough employee noticed damage to his car, authorities said.

Nick Dinev, 30, was taken to the Bergen County Jail after police arrested him Friday on charges of endangering an injured victim and possession of a hypodermic syringe and illegal prescription drugs. They also issued traffic summonses.

A judge ordered Dinev released the next day, under New Jersey's 2017 bail reform law, records show.

The pedestrian, a 41-year-old borough man, was walking east on East Edsall Boulevard near First Street when he was struck around 3 a.m. Thursday, Police Chief Mark Jackson said.

Police found him in the street soon after.

They also found a headlight, the chief said.

The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with a cut on the back of his head and a neck injury, Jackson said.

The next morning, Palisades Park Code Enforcement Officer Kenneth Bruno spotted a pickup truck with front-end damage -- and missing a headlight, Jackson said.

Bruno pulled over, took photos and notified police, he said.

Detectives also got a warrant and impounded the vehicle, which was examined by investigators with the Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification.
