Body Of GWB Suicide Jumper Found In West New York

FORT LEE, N.J. -- The body of a Pennsylvania man who jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge was recovered about seven miles down the Hudson River, authorities said.

Ferando Fernando, 29, of Hazelton, abandoned his SUV mid-span of the eastbound bBridge just before 6:30 a.m. Monday, then climbed over the railing, the Port Authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Responders searched the immediate area with no success, Pentangelo said.

West New York police later recovered the body at Port Imperial, he said.

It was the ninth suicide from the bridge this year, Pentangelo said.

There were 12 last year.
