LEONIA, N.J. -- Grand Avenue in Leonia will be closed Monday from Station Parkway to Fort Lee Road.
The state Department of Transportation is making a repair to a major underground sinkhole recently discovered at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Prospect Street.
The street will be closed from 9 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m., in both directions. Traffic will be diverted around the intersection onto Station Parkway.
The work has been scheduled for Columbus Day because schools are closed and holiday traffic is expected to be less. The Leonia Police Department will place detour signs and have traffic control officers in place to minimize disruption.
Chief Thomas Rowe recommends avoiding the area, and using Broad Avenue as an alternate route.
Christie Heights Street also will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday for resurfacing.
