LEONIA, N.J. -- Police Chief Tom Rowe is asking residents to abide by a borough law requiring sidewalks to be thoroughly cleaned.
"Borough Ordinance 247-17 requires a property owner to clear the entire width of the the sidewalk from edge to edge," Rowe said in a post on town message boards.
"If your sidewalk is not cleaned edge to edge, please shovel it thoroughly so that pedestrians are not forced to walk in the street."
Although the chief didn't say so, property owners who don't clean sidewalks can be subject to summonses and fines. Sidewalks are required to be cleared within 12 hours of snowfall ending.
It is also a liability risk to leave snow and ice on walks.
