Donations for the sale will be collected today, Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon and the sale will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 at the American Legion Post # 1, 399 Broad Ave., Leonia.
“I think it’s a great way to raise funds,” said Gail Hutnik, treasuree and membership vice president of the women’s auxillary. “It’s a great way for people within the town to clean out their basements or attics because someone else’s junk is always someone else’s treasure.”
The auxiliary will collect all donations excluding, clothes, books or VHS equipment and tapes. Small pieces of furniture and a large collection of cowboy boats will be for sale — 28 pairs of boots to be exact.
“We had 36 pairs of cowboy boots last year,” Hutnik said. “We have a member of the men’s American Legion who wears cowboy boots everyday to work and he donates every year.”
No physical donations will be accepted on Saturday, except for cash donations.
This is the third year the auxiliary is having the sale and each year. Proceeds go towards local veterans programs. The Leonia branch, helps all parts of Bergen County, with a large concentration of veterans in Leonia and Fort Lee.
The American Legion Post will also be selling pumpkins at the location and 50/50 raffle tickets.
