Community Rallies To Support Family Of Late Leonia Father

LEONIA, N.J. — A GoFundMe campaign for the family of a Leonia father who died March 12 raised more than $62,000 in only a week.

Raul Gonzalez, 41, was a manager at Auto-Chlor industries in Carlstadt and the president of the Palisades Park Leonia Little League.

The Cuban native is survived by his wife, Katia, and three sons Niko, Julian and Gabriel.

"The community of Leonia lost a friend, a coach, a mentor and a smile," wrote friend Barbara Riehl, who established the GoFundMe page. "He was one of a kind. And that makes his untimely passing that much more difficult to comprehend."

As of Sunday afternoon, 538 people had donated. The campaign has a fundraising goal of $65,000.
