Dog and cats are being offered for adoption at Firehouse No. 1 by the Bergen County Protect & Rescue Foundation, based in neighboring Cliffside Park.

"There are plenty of cuties who need good homes," said EMT Werner Ennesser from Fort Lee.

Ennesser and girlfriend Jacqueline N. Calkins took home one of their own -- an 8-week-old coon hound named Scrappy.

"Poor thing was so tired from the fair that he couldn't keep his eyes open," Ennesser said late Thursday.

The feast -- and adoptions -- continue until Sunday.
