This year the event also serves a fundraiser that benefits the Weekend Snack Pack Program in Leonia’s Anna C. Scott and Edgewater’s George Washington Elementary Schools. The Weekend Snack Pack Programs provide healthy food on the weekends for students in our community at risk of hunger. It was established in response to a school nurse’s observation that children on the reduced-cost or free lunch program were returning to school on Mondays suffering from symptoms of hunger, which interfered with their ability to learn. The Center for Food Action’s solution was to discreetly slip a snack pack with kid-friendly foods into the backpacks of eligible children every Friday.

Leonia’s Oktoberfest is sponsored by Rotary Club of the Palisades and Center for Food Action. Entertainment will be provided by the three-piece band Breitenbach.
