The owner called police just after 3 p.m. Tuesday to report a suspicious vehicle in the business lot occupied by three people – one of whom went to a nearby bank, Lt. Joseph Soto said.

Responding to the call, Officer Terrance Murphy spotted the trio’s black Dodge Challenger, with “darkly tinted windows and Maryland registration,” on Wyckoff Avenue, Soto said.

Murphy was joined by backups as he pulled the car over, witnesses said.

“It was determined that the vehicle was a rental [that] was overdue and none of the occupants were authorized to drive it,” Soto said.

Arrested were:

  • TyQuell R. Wilson, 28, who was charged with hindering his apprehension, conspiracy to commit forgery and being an unlicensed driver;
  • Craig L. McMillian, 27, who was charged with conspiracy to commit forgery, credit card fraud, and possession of a false government document;
  • Brion A. Howard, 26, who was charged with uttering a forged document, assuming a false identity, credit card fraud, and forgery.

The vehicle was impounded and will be returned to the rental agency, Soto said.

All three were released pending court hearings, under New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform law.

“We cannot stress enough the value of our residents remaining alert in their neighborhoods and reporting anything unusual or suspicious to the police,” Soto said. “We encourage all residents to report any suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity occurring in their neighborhoods at any time.”
