“It’s the largest [seizure] in recent years,“ said Jen Friedberg of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Port Authority Police Officer Frank Emblen was patrolling the westbound side of the bridge Tuesday when he pulled over the suspicious gray Chevy Malibu near Lemoine Avenue a little before 7 p.m., Friedberg said.
“Why not knock out a few tailights and put a big crack in the windshield before you leave the house too?” one reader wrote.
Emblen, a 17-year vet, ran the driver’s license after finding he wanted on a warrant out of Newark. His passenger was wanted as well, Friedberg said.
Police charged the apparently intoxicated driver, 25-year-old Kamal P. Jeggers of Newark, and Marquis A. Rhymes, 27, of East Orange with a variety of offenses — including possessing drugs without 500 feet of a park. That would be Fort Lee Historic Park, which overlooks the bridge.
Broken down, the drugs would probably fetch about $2,000 on the street.
