Victim decapitated in horrific Palisades Parkway crash

A passenger was decapitated and the driver of another car injured in a high-speed crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway that emergency workers said was unlike few they’d ever seen.

Police said the driver of 2008 Infiniti accelerated in an attempt to squeeze between two other vehicles traveling next to one another on the northbound side of the highway south of Exit 7 in Orangeburg, near Blauvelt.

Emergency workers responding to the 11:45 p.m. crash last night found one of the vehicles split in two — half of it on the other side of the highway.

Inside one of the halves, a 25-year-old Haverstraw man had been decapitated, emergency workers told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .

“This is going to be legendary for all the wrong reasons,” one of them said.

The car the deceased victim was in, driven by a 25-year-old Spring Valley man, bounced off the two vehicles, sending one into the median and the other into the shoulder, police said.

The Infiniti then skidded sideways and rammed a tree, hitting on the side where the passenger who was killed was sitting — and splitting the vehicle in two.

Half of the car careened into the soutbound lanes, emergency workers said.

A 60-year-old female driver of another car was taken to Nyack Hospital. Three occupants of the third car weren’t injured, said New York State Police, who are investigating.

Meanwhile, police redirected a stream of northbound traffic onto the grass median and back the other way.

Both directions remained closed for several hours. The northbound lanes didn’t reopen until 8:25 this morning.
