U.S. Marshals, police hunting escaped fugitive

An arrest following a chase on the Garden State Parkway that ended at a toll plaza in Egg Harbor Township tonight was of someone else, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the search said.

4 p.m.: Authorities have closed off a Palisades Park neighborhood where a fugitive who fled authorities this afternoon was last seen. An unconfirmed source says he may be holed up in a building on East Brinkerhoff Avenue off Broad Avenue.

He was last seen on Broad Avenue in Palisades Park, where police have established a perimeter, a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

A federal source close to the investigation told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that the fugitive was taken into custody by New York City Police Department detectives, with help from the U.S. Marshals Service, in Fort Lee shortly after 1 p.m. this afternoon, then bolted in an unmarked NYPD police car while still handcuffed and in leg irons.
