YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Port Authority police this morning arrested a chauffeur for the Ugandan Mission for DWI in Fort Lee near the George Washington Bridge.

An officer directing traffic stopped 41-year-old Elly Agaba just before 8:30 a.m. for driving the mission’s 2010 Mercedes Benz through the “zebra stripes” on the approach to the bridge, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .

The officer quickly noticed that Agaba — a native of the western Ugandan town of Kanungu — was intoxicated, Pentangelo said. He then blew a .21% on a breath test, nearly three times the legal limit of .08%.

The U.S. State Department and the mission were notified of the arrest, Pentangelo said.

Agaba, who he said has a New York State driver’s license, was charged with DWI, careless driving and failing to obey pavement markings.

He was processed at the Port Authority’s administration building on Lemoine Avenue and released pending a court appearance.
