Palisades Interstate Parkway police who found Eddie Griffin after being summoned to Henry Hudson Drive south of the Edgewater entrance at 1:42 p.m. learned that he “intended to harm himself after leaving his home earlier in the day,” PIP Police Chief Michael Coppola said.

Griffin was “unconscious and unresponsive,” said Coppola, who joined his officers at the scene.

CPR was conducted and Fort Lee EMS brought Griffin to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after, he said.

Toms River police were in the process of taking a missing persons report when Griffin was found.

“The investigation has proved that no suspicious circumstances were involved,” Coppola said.
