Fort Lee police diverted eastbound traffic through the exit for Bergen Boulevard/Route 63, barely 50 yards from the 11:50 a.m. crash on the westbound side.

The tractor-trailer snagged and yanked down overhead electrical and telephone wires, toppling the pole, sparking a small mulch fire and bringing Fort Lee police and firefighters, along with workers from the state Department of Transportation, PSE&G and Verizon.

There was no word when the westbound side was expected to be reopened.
