YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Ridgefield police nabbed a trio of accused car burglars from Jersey City as they tossed several assorted power tools into a creek following a series of break-ins, authorities said today.

Responding to a quick-acting resident’s call of “three males jumping in and out of cars” between Shaler Boulevard and Walnut Street, Sgt. Jose Brito grabbed one of them — identified as 20-year-old Trevick M. Thomas (above, right) — as he walked near the intersection of Day Avenue and Shaler Boulevard just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Robert Meurer said.

Brito detained him after Thomas gave conflicting accounts of his actions, Meurer said.

The sergeant then spoke with two residents who said they saw two accomplices throwing items into Wolf’s Creek.

Moments later, Brito saw Daniel Rodriguez, 22 (above, left) , and a 17-year-old boy emerge from an area driveway. They, too, gave conflicting accounts, the sergeant said.

One was carrying back pack full of clothing that also had a “Milwaukee brand blade-type tool” covered in blue tape inside. he said.

Backups quickly joined the sergeant — Ridgefield Police Officers Nick Coppolecchia and Greg Anastassatos, as well as Leonia Police Sgt. Robert Kennedy and Fairview Police Officer Nick Leto.

In the creek, Brito found similarly branded tools, along with a screwdriver, drill bits, a power drill, tool belt and other items, Meurer said.

The victims of the four break-ins later reclaimed their property, he said.

Thomas and Rodriguez were charged with burglary to motor vehicles, theft, tampering with evidence and possession of burglary tools. Both were being held on $25,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.

The teen was issued a delinquent complaint on the same offenses and released to a relative.
