Carmen Lombardi, a 43-year-old vehicle inspector from Elmwood Park, was behind the wheel of one of the vehicles that crashed at the corner of Lemoine Avenue and Bridge Plaza North shortly before 10 a.m., Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.
Lombardi took off, Grewal said, leaving the critically injured 57-year-old victim beneath the other car, which came to rest against the wall of a walk-in clinic.
The woman was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition, the prosecutor said.
Detectives later arrested Lombardi and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, Grewal said.
He was released pending a Nov. 3 hearing in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
