Ariel Paulino, 20, also was carrying a small amount of heroin when his 2003 Volvo was stopped around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, the Port Authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.

The officer investigated after smelling marijuana while talking with Paulino -- and found the drugs along with the .45-caliber pistol, Pentangelo said.

Paulino was charged with drug and weapons offenses and the car was impounded, he said.
