William Joseph Slaughter, 22, was first charged following his arrest late last Thursday.
Slaughter “was familiar with the child and his siblings from having spoken to them in the park several times beginning on June 30,” Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinellil said this afternoon.
Despite the objections of the boy’s teenage sister, Slaughter took the child about a quarter-mile to his Broad Avenue apartment, the prosecutor said.
The sister and several other teens followed close behind and kept Slaughter from taking the boy inside, Molinelli said. The sister also called her mother, he said.
Family members notified Leonia police, who alerted the prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit.
Detectives arrested Slaughter on luring and endangering charges after interviewing the child and two siblings, Molinelli said.
They also learned about the his other alleged activities with the 13-year-old girl, he said.
They found the teen, who told them she’d had sex with Slaughter at least twice, Molinelli said.
Investigators then added charges of sexual assault and endangerment.
Slaughter, who is single, was being held on $325,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
