William Joseph Slaughter, 23, was accompanied by defense lawyer Frank Lucianna (above, left) for the charge involving the boy and another of violating a court order not to have unsupervised contact with minors.
Attorney James Doyle (above, right) represented Slaughter on a charge of sexually assaulting the boy’s 13-year old sister at least twice after meeting her in an open gym program where he worked on a per diem basis supervising kids.
Both entered separate not-guilty pleas.
Slaughter was originally arrested in July 2014 after police said he took the boy from a Wood Park program to the door of his apartment about a quarter-mile away. Police say the child’s sister and friends followed him, telling him not to take the boy, and the girl called her mother when he persisted.
The other charges emerged after the girl was questioned.
Slaughter originally posted $325,000 bail and was released with conditions that he not have contact with minors without another adult present.
Then in November, police said, he went to Leonia High School and then to a school at St. John’s Catholic Church, where he tried to get a job coaching soccer.
Slaughter was rearrested, then posted $400,000 bail this past June 9 — down from $500,000 — and was released from the Bergen County Jail.
Considerably heavier than when he was arrested, Slaughter spoke quietly with his lawyers today. His mother and two other women were in court with him.
Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Kristin DeMarco (below, left) said she hadn’t made a plea offer yet to either attorney because she’s waiting for the results of a psychiatric examination.
