YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Officers found a loaded .38-caliber handgun and a .22-caliber Magnum, along with hollow-point ammunition and drugs, after a motorist pretended to be sleeping in a car stopped at a Bergen Boulevard service station, Fort Lee police said tonight.

It was just before 10 o’clock Friday night when Officer Dennis Pothos said he saw a four-door 2004 Toyota Camry unsafely cut across a lane on Route 1 & 9, coming from the area of the George Washington Bridge, before heading into a Gulf Gas Station.

While talking with the driver, 23-year-old Edward Rosario of the Bronx, Pothos noticed “a clear plastic bag with a white powdery residue,” believed to be heroin, Fort Lee Police Capt. Thomas Ottina said.

Ordered out of the car, Rosario “appeared to have ingested” some drugs, Ottina said.

The officer obtained Rosario’s consent to search the car and summoned K9 Officer R. Hernandez and his dog, Greener.

Greener quickly indicated drugs were inside, after which the officers said they found several glassine bags of heroin and the higher-caliber gun.

They then obtained a search warrant and found the second weapon, along with more heroin and some pills, Ottina said.

Rosario was being held on $150,000 cash bail at the Bergen County Jail, charged with two counts of weapons possession, possession of hollow-nosed bullets (which are illegal in New Jersey), and various drug counts. He was also issued several summonses.

Around the same time of the arrest, Ottina, Fort Lee police stopped another car and arrested three occupants who they said were carrying synthetic marijuana.
