Female Dump Truck Driver Who Owed $15,800 In Tolls Arrested At GWB

FORT LEE, N.J. -- A Port Authority police officer who pulled over a female dump truck driver for beating the toll at the George Washington Bridge made a surprising discovery -- she owed E-ZPass $15,800, authorities said.

Laura R. Tarrats, 42, of Wantage was stopped at the upper level toll booth by Officer Leonel Gonzalez around 9 a.m. Monday after her 2004 Kenworth rolled through a "toll unpaid" sign in the E-ZPass lane, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Tarrats, who didn't have an EZPass transponder, had her account revoked in February, he said.

Police arrested and processed Tarrats and impounded her truck.

A June 17 hearing on charges of theft of services and toll evasion -- along with traffic violations -- was scheduled in Superior Court in Hackensack.
