YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: An alleged car thief was arrested after police said he nearly bit an Englewood Cliffs restaurant employee and tried to take off with a customer’s Mercedes.
“It is alleged that he was attempting to steal a Mercedes when apparently restaurant employees intervened,” Englewood Cliffs Police Chief Michael Cioffi told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
The thief tried biting one of the workers but apparently only got part of his jacket, the chief said.
Englewood Cliffs Police Officer Jae Lee chased down 25-year-old Alvin Reid four blocks south of the restaurant, near Parkway Toyota on Sylvan Avenue, and took him into custody Friday afternoon, he said.
Reid was charged with aggravated assault while attempting to steal a motor vehicle, motor vehicle theft and robbery.
Records show Reid also faces drug charges from Closter and Palisades Interstate Parkway Police, as well as an obstruction charge from 2009 out of Fort Lee.
He was being held on a combined $101,855 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
