Vaughn Preston, 34, pulled onto the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway, then took the Englewood Cliffs exit onto 9W while being chased by a good Samaritan, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Moments earlier, his 2013 Jeep Wrangler struck the sweeper on the bridge's upper level, Pentangelo said.

The operator was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center for minor neck and back injuries, he said.

Preston, meanwhile, was charged with assault by auto, DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and having marijuana in a motor vehicle. Bail was set at $5,000.

Palisades Interstate Parkway police assisted.
