Body found on Edgewater shore is missing Bloomfield man, 21

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: The body of a man who washed up on the Hudson River shore in Edgewater over the weekend was identified as 21-year-old Nycal Velasquez of Bloomfield, who went missing on March 20 after leaving the family SUV near the cliffs in Fort Lee Historial Park with a suicide note inside.

Velasquez was missing for two weeks when the car with the note inside was found at the park overlooking the George Washington Bridge. Palisades Parkway Police conducted an extensive search of the park, the cliffs and below, assisted by Bergen County and Port Authority police.

A construction worker found the body washed up on the Hudson riverbank just after 7:15 a.m. Saturday morning at the old Unilever site off River Road, Edgewater Police Capt. Alex Hanna told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Next of kin were notified yesterday after the Bergen County Medical Examiner determined his identity.

Although a suicide leap from the bridge appears most likely, “the ME hasn’t determined the cause yet,” Hanna said this morning.
