Authorities: Guatemalan National Molested Palisades Park Girl 8 Years Ago

PALISADES PARK, N.J. -- A Guatemalan national living in Palisades Park was charged with molesting a borough girl nearly eight years ago.

Detectives from the borough and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Special Victims Unit took 38-year-old Elmar Tomas Amira of Hillside Avenue into custody Wednesday on sexual assault and child endangerment charges.

This came after the girl, now 14, described the alleged assault, which she said happened in November 2007, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

The 5-foot-4-inch Amira, who Molinelli said is married and works as a landscaper, was being held on $250,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.
