Hector Arredondo, 35, was being held on $35,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with arson.

As Daily Voice initially reported, Leonia Police Sgt. David Stein spotted the smoke and flames coming from an area of brush in the park’s south side around 12:20 a.m. April 22 and discovered the unoccupied Nissan Murano with no one around.

Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading through the brush.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal's Arson Squad investigated along with Leonia police.

Arredondo "provided false information to detectives" who ended up arresting him, the prosecutor said Wednesday.

A July 20 hearing was set in Bergen County Central Municipal Court in Hackensack.
