A PATH employee at Journal Square summoned officers Tuesday night after seeing 38-year-old Anthony Severino of Bayonne swipe the Trek bike — valued at $350 — from the Plaza, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

They, in turn, arrested Severino — who they said had a bicycle wheel in his hand — and charged him with theft.

Hoboken police arrested Severino in August 2012 on charges of stealing saddles and wheels from commuters’ bicycles chained up near the PATH station. They recovered an entire bicycle, as well.

Days earlier, they said, Severino appeared intoxicated or emotionally disturbed when they pulled him from the Hudson.

Tuesday’s arrest continues an aggressive campaign by Port Authority police against bike thieves victimizing commuters at Hudson PATH stations.
