Five occupants in all, including the driver, were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after the 3:30 a.m. single-car crash, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

The 2000 Honda Accord sustained heavy front-end damage, he said.

The group was headed to meet friends who'd arrived at the hotel moments earlier, the prosecutor said.

Grewal's Fatal Accident Investigation Unit conducted a joint probe with Fort Lee police, leading to charges against the driver of causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle while unlicensed.

"Additional charges may be forthcoming pending further investigation," the prosecutor said.
