Mary Boylan, 78, Of Fort Lee

FORT LEE, N.J. -- Mary Boylan, a resident of Fort Lee, died Sunday, Feb.7. She was 78.

Boylan served the borough of Fort Lee in many capacities, including being instrumental, with her husband, in reactivating the Fort Lee Historical Society in 1982 and was a trustee. She was inducted into the Fort Lee High School Hall of Fame in 2005 in recognition of her meritorious achievement and exemplary service to the children and citizens of Fort Lee. 

She was active in various service and social organizations, including the Ridgefield Park Elks Lodge #1506, where she was selected as president of Emblem Club #101 in 2001, the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary, the Irish American Social Club and the Palisade Cliff Dwellers Camping Club. She also served as president of School 2 PTA and retired from the Fort Lee Housing Authority.

She is survived by her sister, Winnie Derfus; brothers, George (Laurie), John, Billy (Mary Ann), and Larry; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Marie and George O'Donnell/Low); and brother-in-laws, Joe Boylan and George Derfus.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Friday and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home, 327 Main St. The funeral will leave at 10:30 a.m. Saturday for the celebration of her funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in the Historic Madonna R.C. Church on the Hill.
