Aldo A. Lain Sr., 91, Of Palisades Park

PALISADES PARK, N.J. — Aldo A. Lain Sr., of Palisades Park, died Nov. 5.

He is survived by his wife, Yolanda (DeRosso); children, Suzy, Lorraine, Mary Ann and Aldo Jr.; sister, Norma, of Piombino, Italy; several nieces and nephews and their families, who all reside in Italy; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brother, Guiseppe, of Thiene, Italy; and sister, Esterina, of Montichiari, Italy.

Born June 27, 1925, in San Vito di Leguzzano in the Veneto Region of northern Italy, he turned his love of the outdoors into a career, training and serving as a forest ranger throughout many regions of Italy.

In 1951 though, he followed his sweetheart and wife, Yole, to the USA, where her family previously had emigrated. Not being able to work as a forest ranger in America due to lack of citizenship, he turned his considerable mechanical skills to the textile industry, in which he was adept as a master weaving loom repair foreman. He worked for the Cosentino Company of Paterson until his retirement at 64.

Lain was dedicated to his church and community, serving as an usher during Sunday services for 45 years at St. Michaels RC Church in Palisades Park, as well as serving in many volunteer capacities both there and in the adjoining school. He was a devoted member of the Holy Name Society and proud of his service as Past Grand Knight of the Archbishop Thomas J. Walsh Knights of Columbus Council #3550, in Palisades Park.

He greatly enjoyed large family gatherings, where there always was singing around the dinner table while enjoying the wine and grappa he’d make at home. He loved fishing and was a huge fan of soccer, watching televised games nearly incessantly. Around the table at night, he would enjoy playing the Italian card game Scopa.

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck. A funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and then to St. Michael’s RCC, Palisades Park for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Regional Cancer Center at Holy Name Medical Center c/o The Holy Name Medical Center Foundation, 718 Teaneck Rd, Teaneck NJ 07666.
