All four occupants were ejected from the 2001 Ford Mustang in the 1:09 a.m. crash into the Bergen Town Centre parking lot, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

A 19-year-old Garfield woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Grewal said.

A second Garfield female in her 20s later died at Hackensack University Medical Center, he said.

A third Garfield woman, also in her 20s, and a 23-year-old Paterson man were also taken to HUMC, the prosecutor said.

The woman remained hospitalized with serious injuries, he said. The man was treated and released.

"The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no determination has yet been made relative to any potential criminal or motor vehicle charges," Grewal said just after 11 a.m.

The prosecutor wasn't identifying victims until all next of kin had been notified.

The lot was mostly empty at the time. Blue laws keep the mall closed on Sundays.

His Fatal Accident Investigations Unit responded with borough police. The Bergen County Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence.
