"We have a hard task ahead of us over the next few weeks. We're going to be meeting amongst the administrative staff and trying to look at a lot of different things to see what we can do to meet that challenge,” Lakeland's Business Administrator/Board Secretary Kathryn Davenport said, according to the report.
At issue is a $1.7 million increase in special education costs this year due to both more students and the growing costs of sending students to out-of-district placements, the story says.
Some cuts have already been identified, which leaves about $1 million more to cut, the story says.
