GoFundMe Aids Cancer-Stricken River Edge Mom

RIVER EDGE, N.J. — More than $7,600 had been raised in just one day as of Friday evening on a GoFundMe for a River Edge single mom battling cancer.

The new year began tragically for Val Purciello, 57, who was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in December. 

Purciello opens the childcare center at Retro Fitness Hackensack each morning before heading to Paterson, where she is a teacher.

The mom of four will be undergoing treatment this month at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

The GoFundMe page was launched by Purciello's daughter-in-law, Katherine Purciello of Westwood.

Retro Fitness will be holding a Zumbathon Fundraiser for Val on Jan. 29 at noon.
