Fort Lee Breast Cancer Survivor: Get Checked

FORT LEE, N.J. — For Vivian Fonesca of Fort Lee, it was a lump — actually three of them, 10 years ago.

Vivian Fonesca, 33, found one lump at 22 years old. That saved her.

For her mom, Patricia Fonesca of Cliffside Park, it was hardness.

Fonesca wants people to know that breast cancer can present itself in many ways, which is why it's so important to get checked regularly, she said.

"It makes all the difference," said Fonesca, who saw her mother, 53, through a mastectomy last spring.

Fonesca, a mother of two, will be dancing for herself, her mom — along with breast cancer fighters and survivors — on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Retro Fitness Hackensack's Zumbathon.

"Don't wait for it to be a lump," Fonesca said. "Go get checked."
