She is also director of a newly-opened, homeschool co-op in Englewood: Classical Conversations.

Classical Conversations supports homeschooling parents by cultivating the love of learning through a Christian worldview in fellowship with other families, Laguerre said.

"We believe there are three keys to a great education, classical, Christian and community," Laguerre said.

The Englewood coop provides resources and encouragement in the community to aid learning at home.

There are several campuses in New Jersey that have been here for years, but this is the first one in Englewood, Laguerre said.

"We are here to inspire and mentor the homeschool community in Bergen County, while equipping those who want to transition out of the public schools," she said.

Families looking for an alternative to traditional education are drawn to homeschooling, said Laguerre, calling it "a viable option" for many families.

The organization started with 11 students in 1997 in North Carolina by Leigh Bortins.

"We have hundreds of thousands of students enrolled worldwide," the director said. "Our Englewood campus is launching this fall."

Meetings will be on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 7.
