It’s finally Christmas Day and even though we’ve been hearing holiday tunes from morning to night for weeks, today’s the day to turn up the volume.
One place where most people are happy to hear Christmas music is on the soundtrack of their favorite holiday movie. Which Christmas songs have appeared most often on movie soundtracks down through the years?
Jingle Bells from 1857 has appeared in 373 movies, according to website FiveThirtyEight.com, which analyzed IMDB data. Auld Lang Syne is listed in 295 movie soundtracks, placing it second, while Silent Night places third with 254.
Jingle Bells and Silent Night are in the public domain, making both songs easy covers for musicians, FiveThirtyEight.com says. It analyzed data from Spotify. Silent Night is the most covered Christmas song, with 26,496 tracks. Jingle Bells is the third most covered holiday tune with 19,080, according to the webite.
