BOGOTA, N.J. -- It’s impossible to live here and not have a bagel opinion. The New York area, as everyone knows, is the bagel capital of the world. And yes, it’s worth waiting in line on a Sunday morning to get one of these doughy wonders fresh out of the oven. Toasting, as a bagel purist knows, is not necessary when you buy the very best.
Who Has The Best Bagels In Bergen County?

We asked for your favorites and now have five contestants in the running. Each is being profiled this week as part of our ongoing DVlicious contest. Here’s the lowdown on one who made the cut.
Boxcar Bagel & Deli, 10 River Road, Bogata, N.J.; (201) 343-4604
What Makes Them Bagelicious: The sheer size of their bagels -- which one customer said were “bigger than an infant’s head” – seems to impress the most. While large enough for a sandwich or burger, the bagels are still fluffy, and Boxcar, likely named for its location near some railroad tracks, doesn’t skimp on the fillings. One with a schmear of cream cheese or butter is a full meal, some say.
Crazy Flavors: Blueberry, whole wheat, and French toast are faves.
Reminder: The contest ends Monday, April 25 at 5 p.m. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
