HACKENSACK, N.J. -- It’s impossible to live here and not have a bagel opinion. The New York area, as everyone knows, is the bagel capital of the world. And yes, it’s worth waiting in line on a Sunday morning to get one of these doughy wonders fresh out of the oven. Toasting, as a bagel purist knows, is not necessary when you buy the very best.
Who Has The Best Bagels In Bergen County?
Bagel Buffet, Hackensack
Boxcar Bagel & Deli, Bogota
River Road Hot Bagels, Fair Lawn
Three Star Bagels, Fort Lee
We asked for your favorites and now have five contestants in the running. Each has been profiled this week as part of our ongoing DVlicious contest. Here’s the lowdown on one who made the cut.
What Makes Them Bagelicious: Bagels are handmade fresh every morning, a process that's been going strong for 30 years.
Crazy Flavors: Bagel Buffet prefers to make traditional bagel varieties like poppy, sesame, garlic, egg, pumpernickel, everything, plain and onion, but is known for its whole wheat everything. The shop, which has a second location in Secaucus, also does a big business with its flavored cream cheeses. Veggie and scallion tend to sell out quickly.
Reminder: The contest ends Monday, April 25 at 5 p.m. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
