Leonia Chamber Musicians Society Announces New Season

LEONIA, N.J. -- A new season of chamber music is being launched starting Sunday, Nov. 6 in Leonia.

The Leonia Chamber Musicians Society, Inc. begins its 2016-17 season performing three concerts from through April 23.

  • Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Leonia United Methodist Church, 396 Broad Ave., Leonia. In honor of the elections, an American-themed program will be performed, featuring Antonín Dvořák's American String Quartet and including music by American composer Samuel Barber.
  • Feb. 5 at 4 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 150 Park Ave., Leonia. A Spanish-flavor program will spotlight Cynthia Phelps, Principal Viola of the New York Philharmonic, performing Joaquín Turina Scene andalouse for solo viola, piano and strings. Music by Luigi Boccherini and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco will also be presented.
  • April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 150 Park Ave., Leonia. By request, the Franz Schubert Trout Quintet will be performed.

The concerts, presented by professional musicians, are open to the public. 

Tickets will be available for purchase at the door and are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, and students under 18 are admitted free. 

Refreshments will be served after the concert, and the audience will have an opportunity to meet and greet the musicians. All Saints Episcopal Church is fully handicapped accessible.

The special season subscription rate for all three concerts is $80 for adults ages 18 and over and $65 for seniors, reflecting a $10 savings for season tickets. Checks should be made payable to the Leonia Chamber Musicians Society, Inc. and mailed to P.O. Box 473, Leonia, NJ 07605.

The Leonia Chamber Musicians Society aims to enrich the cultural environment of the community by presenting a series of professional, affordable and accessible chamber music concerts. 

The professional members all perform in major New York City concert halls.

Music for the programs is selected to educate the audience about different periods and styles of music. Throughout the concerts, presentations are given about the music being played, the composers, the musicians and related subjects.
