LEONIA, N.J. -- The Leonia Chamber Musicians Society will present "Warm Music On A Winter Afternoon," on Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Leonia United Methodist Church.
The performance is the first of two concerts of its 2016 season and begins at 4 p.m. A special feature of the program will be the Franz Schubert Bb Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello, considered one of the great pieces in the chamber music repertoire.
"It has been said about this richly melodic music 'the troubles of our human existence disappear and all the world is fresh and bright again'," said Daryl Goldberg, President, Leonia Chamber Musicians Society.
The program will also present the classic Concerto da Camera for flute, English horn and piano by innovative French composer Arthur Honegger.
A string quintet written for two violins, viola, cello and double bass by George Onslow, a mid 19th century composer whose music was admired by both Beethoven and Schubert, will complete the program.
The professional musicians all reside in Leonia and they perform in the major halls of New York City and worldwide. Musicians scheduled to perform in this concert are
- Theresa Norris, flute
- Marsha Heller, English horn
- Steven Masi, piano
- Roy Lewis and Douglas Chung, violins
- Maggie Speier, viola
- Daryl Goldberg, cello
- Patricia Dougherty, bass
After the concert, the audience is invited to meet the musicians, make new friends, and enjoy refreshments.
Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $30 adults, $25 seniors and free for students under age 18.
The Leonia United Methodist Church is located at 396 Broad Avenue in Leonia, New Jersey.
