Fort Lee Film To Celebrate John Barrymore's Birthday

FORT LEE, N.J. -- The Fort Lee Film Commission is having its annual John Barrymore birthday fundraiser Friday, Feb. 15, to benefit the drama department of Fort Lee High School.

Barrymore made his stage debut when he was 18 in 1900 in a play directed by his father, Maurice Barrymore for the benefit of the Fort Lee (Coytesville) Fire Department.

The event will include laying a wreath at the site of his first performance -- at the former Buckheisters Hotel on Main Street and Central Road, today's Barrymore Way.

The ticket price includes appetizers, soft drinks and live music by troubadour Thaddeus McGregor.

The fundraiser will begin at 7 p.m. at Santorini Taverna Restaurant, 2020 Central Road, Fort Lee.
