Matthews' Diner was started by the six Matthews brothers in June of 1967. Having been raised in the food industry, it was only natural to continue in the family’s footsteps and open their own establishment. For the last 20 years, Matthews Diner has been owned and operated by Sam, son of Stanley Matthews.

“Matthews' Diner has become a part of people’s history and daily lives where they can meet and spend time together,”  Matthews said. “I’ve seen people have their first dates here, get engaged here and come back 20 years later with a full family.”

During the month-long celebration, Matthews' Diner will be offering customers the opportunity to have a portion of their guest check donated to Friends of the Bergenfield Library, Friends of the Bergenfield Music, Bergenfield United Soccer or The VFW National Home for Children.

In addition, there will be a performance by the Bergenfield High School marching band and the winners of the high school’s scholarship essay competition will be announced.
